How to Salvage A Clogged Caulk Tube

There have been so many great and creative ideas about how to salvage a clogged caulk tube, or how to reuse a caulk tube. If you are here reading this, then you are probably like me, in that you have thrown away many caulk tubes that still have plenty of good caulk, sealer, or adhesive but you could not use it because the tip/nozzle, and or top of the tube was partially dried out. I put together a collection below of these ideas from YouTube.

Salvage a Clogged Caulk Tube

Salvage a Clogged Caulk Tube

This one is titled “Salvage a Clogged Caulk Tube”. In this video the user cuts open the tip of the tube, removes the dried portion and then uses tape to put the tip back together. This method would probable work well with adhesives that don’t need to be applied with any precision, but probably won’t work very well with caulk and sealers that need a fine or more predictable bead. But it certainly beats the cut the tube apart and spread it with your fingers.

Tube A New – The Caulk Tube Saver

Tube A New – The Caulk Tube Saver

This one is titled “Tube A New – The Caulk Tube Saver”. This video demonstrates unique product for addressing the issue of clogged caulk tubes and or nozzles. This product actually replaces the top of the caulk tube, replacing the clogged portion of the tube and or nozzle. This product can also be used to replace a worn or broken tip, so it is not just for clogged caulk tubes or nozzles. If the tube gets clogged or dries up again, you can simply replace the tip again.

How to Get Silicone out of the Hard Tubes

How to Get Silicone out of the Hard Tubes

This one is titled “How to Get Silicone out of the Hard Tubes”. This is an interesting idea if you are just looking to get the contents out of the tube. In this video the user removes the plunger from the bottom of the caulk tube to access the unused portion of the content. If you are just looking to spread the caulk, sealer, or glue with a tool or your finger this would work pretty well.

This one is titled “30 seconds to unblock clogged sealant caulking gun without mess”. I think I found this one the most interesting. This guy has built quite an interesting device for dealing with the challenge of clogged caulk tubes. In this video the user has created sort of a strap that goes around the clogged tube where the unused portion of caulk is. There is a sort of nozzle on the strap that he then drills a hole through into the tube. When placed back in the caulk gun, the caulk can then be squeezed back out of the nozzle on the strap. Again, this method would probable work well with adhesives that don’t need to be applied with any precision, but probably won’t work very well with caulk and sealers that need a fine or more predictable bead. Seems to me it would be easier to just cut the tube open and scoop it out.

Unclogging caulk tube.

Unclogging caulk tube

This one is titled “Unclogging caulk tube”. In this video the user drills out the dried caulk from the nozzle with a power drill. This can work well if you are lucky, but it is a bit unpredictable as the caulk. sealer, or adhesive can be very flexible and not come out cleanly. Quite often it just gets ground up inside the tube and or tip. This method also tends to damage the tip. However, of all the ideas I’ve seen, this is one of the few that make an attempt to save the nozzle or tip on the clogged tube.

Clearly clogged caulk tubes are a frustration for many people. There are a number of ways to address it. It really depends on your need. If you just need a little more of what is in the tube and don’t care about the finish, just cut it open and scoop it out. If you are looking for a solution that will be like having a new tube of caulk, sealer, or adhesive from that clogged tube you already have, then Tube a New – With it's Patent Pending design, is the answer.
